There’s pampered and then there was $12 million Trouble pampered
That was the amount left to Trouble, Leona Helmsley’s pampered Maltese when the billionaire real estate tycoon passed away back in 2008. And now it seems Trouble has moved on to the great beyond to be with her mistress. The 12 year old (that’s around 84 in dog years) Helmsley heiress passed away back in December (though the world only learned of it this month).
No reason was given as to why the information was kept secret until now.
Whatever the reason however, trouble began for Trouble almost immediately when news of her lofty inheritance spread. The pooch received continuing death threats from people angry that such a sum be allotted toward the maintenance of a dog. Family members refused to act as her guardian for Leona’s “bitey’ dog. Two of her grandchildren whom she cut out of her will sued, arguing that their grandmother wasn’t of sound mind when she signed the document. A judge agreed and cut the inheritance down to a paltry $2,000,000. However, even on such a hardship allowance, Trouble continued to live a life of ease until her recent death.
One thing however, it goes to show that money isn’t the answer to everything. Leona’s will also stipulated that Trouble should be buried alongside her upon her death in the Helmsley family’s 12,000-square-foot mausoleum, but the super exclusive Sleepy Hollow Cemetery rules forbid animal burial. Trouble was cremated instead.
Hopefully though, Trouble’s urn wasn’t placed in the care of one of the disinherited grandkids.
are you kidding me?
