Dog Scandal Leads To Officer's Firing

OfficerStoughton Fires Kristin Bousquet After Complaint Filed

STOUGHTON, Mass. — Stoughton Animal Control Officer Kristin Bousquet has been fired from the position she held for six years after a hearing into a complaint that she lied to a Rochester woman about her missing silky Yorkshire terrier, The Enterprise reported Sunday.

“She is no longer employed by the town of Stoughton as of Friday,” Town Manager Mark S. Stankiewicz told the newspaper.

Bousquet, who was hired as a full-time animal control officer in 2003, was paid $41,000 a year.

The complaint that led to her firing began as a routine missing dog case.

Rochester resident Janet Torren said her 4-year-old dog, Shai, went missing on Sept. 18 after it escaped while she was visiting her son’s home in Stoughton.

Torren said she called the dog officer on Sept. 21, and Bousquet said in a taped message that she had no knowledge of the dog.

After several telephone conversations with Bousquet and trips to Stoughton to continue looking for Shai, Torren said she threatened to press charges against Bousquet if the dog was not returned to her.

Acting Police Chief Thomas Murphy met with Torren in his office on Oct. 1 and the dog was returned to her.

Murphy said Bousquet gave Shai to a police officer for his girlfriend three days after Bousquet found the dog in Stoughton.

Bousquet was not immediately available for comment Saturday. In a previous e-mail to The Enterprise, she admitted to not being “100 percent truthful” about the incident.
