Everyone that comes to the Dog Files knows that we wholeheartedly support the troops, so I wanted to make sure that I brought a certain movie to your attention.
“Max” is a family action adventure movie, brought to us by Warner Bros. Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and from writer/director Boaz Yakin (“Remember the Titans,”). It’s also the name of a military working dog, who serves on the frontlines in Afghanistan alongside his handler, U.S. Marine Kyle Wincott. But when things go terribly wrong on maneuvers, Kyle is mortally wounded and Max, traumatized by the loss of his best friend, is unable to remain in service.
Sent stateside, the only human he seems willing to connect with is Kyle’s teenage brother, Justin, so Max is saved when he is adopted by Kyle’s family. But Justin has issues of his own, including living up to his father’s expectations, and he isn’t interested in taking responsibility for his brother’s troubled dog. However, with time Justin begins to appreciate his canine companion and the four-legged veteran reverts back to his heroic self, helping to unravel the mystery of what really happened to Justin’s brother. But perhaps more importantly, the two find a new best friend…in each other.
Max is released in theaters on Friday, June 26th. I believe the film can be a great tool to show how incredible dogs are and also educate the public about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and what we should be doing to help!
