WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A New York man who killed his girlfriend’s dog by snapping its spine has been sentenced to a year behind bars.
Twenty-one-year-old Jonathan King, of Yorktown, was sentenced Tuesday. King has admitted that he killed Libra, a Yorkshire terrier-Maltese mix, in April 2009 by yanking its collar hard enough to dislocate its head from its spine.
Prosecutors say King went to his girlfriend’s house at a time when he knew no one would be home and killed the dog “with no justifiable purpose.”
The dog’s body was found behind a clothes dryer. King was identified when DNA analysis determined that blood found beneath the dog’s claws was his.
Steven Levine, the father of the dog’s owner, says the family considers King “a danger to our family, our community and our society.”
What a vile man. Only a year, seems like he should be kept locked up longer so he can do no more harm.

For no reason..other than his need to be destructive and violent. What a pig. What next after he's out in a year?
one year?? that's not enought to what he did!! that's just not enough!
How many times in recent years have we read in the newspaper about a “boyfriend” who was babysitting for his girlfriend's kid, ended up killing the child. This one is no better. If he can do this to a helpless dog, what will he do the next time? Will it be a child, or a helpless elderly person? He sees no value in the life of a dog, I am sure he sees no value in human life other than his own. Put the sonofabitch away for life, or dislocate his head from his spine just like he did to this poor dog!
Don’t people who kill animals eventually go on to kill another human being…he needs to be locked up alot longer for killing that cute innocent dog.
