Bosco and his human partner, Officer Mike Schiele, were shot Aug. 22 while attempting to serve a warrant.

Schiele was treated for a wound to his leg and released from a hospital, but Bosco continues to receive care at Ohio State for gunshot wounds to his chest and neck.

According to updates posted on the Ohio State Veterinary Hospital Web site, the dog has more strength and has shown some movement in its front legs. Bosco was also taking steps with his back legs and can stand with sling support.

The Web site said the dog could be moved out of intensive care by the end of the week.

Zanesville police said they have received more than $5,000 in donations to help with Bosco’s care. They expect the bill for the first week alone to approach $10,000.

Dominick Conley, the alleged gunman who opened fire on Schiele and Bosco, could face more than 10 charges stemming from the shooting.

Conley, 18, remains in custody.
