The Dog Files supports partnerships with companies and nonprofits for the good of homeless dogs. Our supporter, Natural Balance Pet Foods, has also been working in partnership with the Best Friends Animal Society since 2012.
Best Friends Animal Society operates Pet Adoption and Spay/Neuter Centers in Los Angeles. While animals in their care are waiting for their forever homes, they get to enjoy healthy, delicious food donated by Natural Balance.
Together, Natural Balance and Best Friends Animal Society just celebrated the grand opening of a new shelter in West Los Angeles, which is another step in the “No-Kill LA” campaign. The NKLA Pet Adoption Center opened this August and is located on 1845 Pontius Avenue in West LA. Natural Balance and Best Friends are just two of 60 NKLA coalition partners in this initiative striving to work towards a no-kill LA.
Stars Align For a Good Cause
A number of Hollywood personalities attended the Grand Opening of the new NKLA Pet Adoption Center including Lisa Edelstein (“Castle,” “House”), Rachelle Lefevre (“Under the Dome”), Tricia Helfer (“Battlestar Galactica”), Seamus Dever (“Castle”), Julie Marie Berman (“General Hospital”), Hawk Koch (co-president, Producer’s Guild of America, former president Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences), James Avery (“Fresh Prince of Bel Air”), and fitness expert/celebrity trainer Ashley Borden.
Actress Kristin Bauer Van Straten, star of HBO’s “True Blood”, also made a surprise appearance. Bauer Van Straten and her dog Asher, whom she rescued from a South Los Angeles shelter five years ago, star in a stirring NKLA public service announcement that promotes the adoption of homeless animals to help realize the goal of making Los Angeles a no-kill city. They are also featured in a prominent mural at the NKLA Pet Adoption Center as well.
Pets adopted from the new NKLA Adoption Center also receive a bag of New Balance Pet Food to continue their healthy care at their new home.
