For anyone that thinks leaving their dogs in the car won’t hurt them, here is proof positive that just one hour and it being late in afternoon can still kill your dogs. Very sad.

Neptune, NJ — Two Rottweilers died on Sunday after their owner, Charles Loguidice left the dogs inside a Dodge pickup for over an hour where they succumbed to heat exhaustion.
Monmouth County SPCA chief Victor Amato said the two dogs, Maximus and Joey, were left outside of MJ’s Pizza Bar and Grill on Route 66 in Neptune, while their owner ate inside. The two animals, each weighing about 115 pounds each, were found dead shortly before 5 p.m.
“He claims he went into the restaurant and periodically pointed his remote control start at the car, thinking that the car was going to start and the air conditioning was going to go on,” Amato said.
But Amato said Loguidice’s story had several inconsistencies.
“He claimed that one (dog) hit the thermostat dial and it went from air conditioning to defrost,” Amato said, adding if that was the case, the air still would have been cool. Loguidice, 48, also said he was only in the restaurant for a half hour, but surveillance footage from the eatery showed it was closer to an hour.
Regardless, Amato said, “He left those dogs unattended when he was in the restaurant eating.”
With temperatures outside approaching 90 degrees, Amato estimated the temperature in the pickup exceeded 100 degrees.
The Freehold township man was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and could face six months in prison for each charge as well as thousands of dollars in fines.
“He’s gotta live with this. There’s no doubt in my mind he’s upset about it,” Amato said. “But it was a stupid act.”
Uggh, people like that make me mad! Glad to see he can get jail time, though I think 6 months is not nearly enough time. He should be left in a hot car for an hour!

When will people learn and listen? It’s been on the news, in papers, on fb to NOT leave your pets alone in a vehicle when it’s hot, no matter how fast you think you’ll be! These poor dogs suffered because he was stupid and heartless!
To hell with jail time…Lock him in a car and let him suffer the same way those poor dogs did!

How can anyone stand and make excuses when they just lost their friends because of stupidity? C’mon most kids even know you don’t leave animals in a hot vehicle. Most remote starts will tell you if the vehicle is running, did he bother to check. I’m sorry for his loss but even sorrier for his stupidity.
With everything we know about not to leave your dogs in the car on hot days …there are still people who still don’t understand……or think it could never happen to them . Shame on him and I would hope that he would never be able to own a dog again..May the 2 dogs rest in peace now…..

Who would take there dogs out to a resturant, they plan to eat at. Leave them in the heat. When I go somewhere with my dogs in the car, it is to the post office drive up mail box, food service places with drive through and gas station. What were these people thinking.

where is your brain mister?? you know about NOT leaving your pets in a vehicle!!! now you’ll have to live with the fact YOU killed your dogs while you were inside a cool restaurant, while your beautiful dogs boiled out in the truck!!! I hope they give you the max! have a good life!
The thermostat changes the temperature, not the mode control from A/C to defrost.. I think he needs to make up a better lie next time. I hope he gets the maximum sentence, which will still not be enough!
I said something to two young punks that were going to leave a puppy in their car while they went into an electronics store, although they did mistakenly think putting down the windows a couple of inches would help. While one of them stated he was only going to be in there a “second”, the other one actually wanted to fight me! Good thing the store was closed for lunch, (which is why I was sitting in my car, windows all the way down and still hot), because I had a BIG surprise for them if they hadn’t left and actually did start something with me.
I agree with Pam Kwaczala – Put him in a vehicle, in the hot sun, with no windows open, for over an hour’s time. Let’s see how he feels… if he survives… How cruel can you be?? Instead of sitting on your lazy butt, pressing a remote – not even checking if it was working properly, try opening the windows – you know, like in the Old Days, when there was no A.C. in cars or remotes, etc. Sad, Sad, Despicable.
That brought me to tears. How selfish can you be? lock him in the pickup and leave the windows up next time it’s 100 outside. those dogs did not deserve a demise like that
So sad! For both the dogs and the owners. I’m sure he loved his dogs (or probably wouldn’t even have them riding with him) and thought the ac was going. But still he should have checked, brought them water, made sure the ac was running. I’m sure he was so heart broken and felt terrible when he discovered they died from the heat! Breaks my heart.
How many times does it take for a dog to die in a car before idiots like u STILL DON’T GET IT. There is never a good reason to leave an animal in a car while u stuff ur face for even one minute never mind an hour. God says” Do unto others as they would do unto u.” Well now it should be ur turn, force u into the car and lock the doors. The charges that Amato is getting ISN’T ENOUGH. We, as people, the keeper of our four legged friends need to work on makeing animal cruelty charges steeper.
