Retired Bomb-Sniffing Dog Escapes At Detroit Airport

Arco, a Belgian shepherd, is on the loose.Animal control officers and police in Romulus are searching for Arco, a Belgian shepherd, who has bitten two officers in separate incidents this morning.

The dog, 6, arrived on a flight from Arizona and got loose when it was let out to relieve itself, Romulus Police Lt. Josh Monte said.

It’s been on the run since shortly before midnight.

Police last spotted Arco — a retired bomb-sniffing dog that once worked at the White House —near Metro Airport around 5:30 a.m. and say they believe the animal is still in the area.

Officers advised the public not to approach the dog and to call 911 if they see it.

“It’s already bit two police officers, so we don’t want to take any chances,” Monte said.

One of those officers had to get stitches for a wound to his hand. The dog broke free from his collar when the officer went to grab it, Monte said.

As a precaution, officers this morning kept watch at schoolbus stops as children boarded.

The dog was transported to Metro to be united with a new owner, police said.

I hope they don’t do anything to him; it was probably fear biting.  You don’t just grab a loose dog.

Good grief, he looks so stressed and scared in the kennel and just coming off a flight!! No wonder he bite the men, you don’t grab a dog when they are scared!! But they will end up putting him down cause they are stupid, but they don’t put a human down for punching or biting another human now do they?? I hope someone found him and like was said with kind words and patience, brought him out of danger…

I’d be pissed and stressed as well if someone were to lock me in a crate and transport me in a cold, dark, loud, and scary cargo hold.  I really hope they don’t euthanize him… I’m sure he was just disoriented.  Many blessings and well wishes to canine officer.

I hope they do not kill the dog, he was probably very scared after being shut in for so long, working dogs are very highly strung, and he’s probably just panicked!
