Firefighters in New Westminster, British Columbia, rescued a three-legged dog that kept running back into a burning house in an apparent attempt to find its owner, who turned out not be home at the time.
The fire broke out at around 11:30 a.m. PT Friday in the laundry room in the basement of the two-and-a-half story 1930s era wood frame home on 7th Avenue, between 10th and 12th Streets.
New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services launched a massive response to the blaze, which was classed as three-alarm fire due to the proximity of other houses.
Neighbors said that even as thick smoke poured out, “Gypsy,” a three-legged dog, kept trying to get back inside.
The owner was not inside at the time.
By 12:15 p.m., the fire was out and the homeowner had returned.
The house was saved, but the basement and laundry room were gutted.
Neighbors said that the homeowner had been storing Christmas presents in the basement, but they were insured.
Another of the homeowner’s pets, a cat, was found dead inside. A second cat has gone missing.
wow at least the 3 legged dog didnt die in the house fire.
Maybe he was trying to rescue the poor cats! My dogs and cats love each other and I think my dogs would try saving my cats…
Perhaps the dog was trying to get to the cat, not the owner?
I believe it was not the owner she was trying to get it was the Cats!
i have to agree, as the dog knew the owner was not home but the cats were so there fore his/her attempts were to save the poor cats.

Yes i also think so…… dog want to save that poor cat but people misunderstood him as usual……….
Poor kitties but thank god the dog is ok and what a good dog, This is why I love dogs more than anyone or anything.
I agree too. I think the dog was trying to save the cat.
I like cats and dogs as much as the next person, but these people just lost their house to fire. Does that count for anything?
