A 46-year-old man who swung a pit-bull puppy by its leash against an elevator wall and also kicked the animal was charged with aggravated animal cruelty on Monday.
A surveillance video released by the police shows a man, identified as Irving Sanchez, slamming the dog, Max around the elevator of public-housing complex in East Harlem, New York on Sunday night.
Max, whose age was not provided, was not seriously injured. Aggravated cruelty to animals carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.
Surveillance videos of people abusing dogs in public-housing elevators have become a depressingly regular feature of the city’s criminal landscape. Last year, at least three separate such episodes were captured on video in one Harlem building alone.

Dog is now available for adoption by the NY ACC. The sad part is that if he doesn’t find a home or at least get a foster in the next few days, he may be put down. =(

I know NY is trying to get animal abuse cases tried as more severe than a simple misdemeanor…I would hope this jerk spent some time in jail, and was taught the humane way to train an animal. I can’t imagine any judge would let this creep own an animal any time soon. This poor dog is as submissive as it can get, and still is blasted. WTF?? This pup is obviously terrified of this guy as soon as they enter the elevator which means that this abuse is a regular occurrence every time they ride the elevator. I hope he gets the maximum sentence not that it is enough.

I saddens me any time I see this. I volunteer in humane investigations and see it alot and it never gets easier. The laws really need to change when it comes to animals. Most of the word is in the dark age thinking that animals dont or cant suffer as we do when in fact most have the same feelings as we do and it is being proven. Nothing deserves to have to suffer from an abuser. It has been proven time and time again that people who hurt and abuse animals will go to hurting people also. It can be stopped before it happens. Toughen up the laws and make them pay for what they do. We have to much sympathy for the criminals today in this world. It should be like in the old days where they hung them from trees and did to them what they did to whom ever. The criminals have more rights then the peope and animals who are being abused and killed. Please fight for harsher laws for animals.

There should be steeper penalties for animal abuse everywhere. The dog in the video seemed to be just walking along with the abuser. No wrong doing that we could see, even if it had misbehaved , how would it know what it had done wrong with that type of abuse. Somehow I pray that this type of person is “repaid” in some cruel fashion for his abuse to wake him up.
