Michael Vick Gets Key To Dallas, Confronted By Vick Dog Owner

Richard Hunter, owner of a former Michael Vick dog, confronted Vick in Dallas after a “Key to the City” ceremony on Saturday and asked him if he would like to meet one of his former dogs.

Instead, Hunter was pushed out of the way by Vick’s bodyguards.

I’m no fan of Michael Vick. And by that I mean that I don’t follow football, but also I have dogs, rescue dogs, love dogs and despise what Vick did. But that still shot of Vick’s face looked more like a guy who didn’t know what to do in the situation. Honestly, I don’t think this proves anything. I’d like to hear what he would have to say, but I won’t judge him by this video. I’ve read a blog written by him where he explains how he feels about what he did, and how he got to the place where he can begin to understand how horrible it was. I’m now willing to believe he’s a different person. I still HATE what he did, and cringe every time I see accolades thrown his way, but am willing to believe he might be a changed man. I’m sorry I don’t have a link to the blog for you. Perhaps you can find it online.
Thanks for taking care of one of Vick’s former dogs. They deserve nothing but the best for the rest of their lives.

There is no “new” Vick. Whatever he was…. he still is. He is a good football player, that DOES NOT make him a good person. People confuse the two. He is a man that has the abilities to play football for a living, he is also a man that has the potential to maim, torture and kill living things, for fun. If Vick was serious about getting a dog and wanting a dog,,,, why didn’t he seek out the ones he left living.. Why!!?? Because dogs don’t forget… just the sight or smell of Vick would be enough to reduce the dog to shaking, and probably wet itself in fear! The Mayor who gave him the key and Vick… are after only one thing….. $$$$$$$ and fame and they don’t care how they get it. I would keep your “Mel” as far away from Vick as you can…. please don’t put Mel through those horrific memories. Vick is the same person he was before….. just a little wiser to play the game (of life) a little better. I do not believe that Vick is sorry for what he did… he is sorry he got caught.

I’m with you….I don’t think he should have EVER been allowed to play football again. That would have been the TRUE punishment. He doesn’t care that he’s still on probation.. He’s just back to living the life he always wanted. Jail was just a short interruption…He hasn’t lost a thing.

I want to SEE the stuff the reporter is saying happened. He tells us, but doesn’t show us that part.
I LOVE dogs and do not like this Vick guy at all, but why even make this video if you can prove nothing?

YIKES! Reminds me of how my home town gave the key of our city to the head of the KKK back in the 1920s.

Vick’s attituded toward one of his tortured dogs is no surprise. As the video says, “We don’t care about the dogs.” His “repentance” has always been about whatever it takes to get HIMSELF back onto the playing field. His concern for the dogs is nil

One thing is new, however, I will NEVER visit Dallas again. How many dog lovers are with me?
Bad move, Mr. Mayor.

It’s YOUR city and YOUR mayor. Sorry, but animal lovers are going to stay away until YOU fix it.

Let your mayor know you want the key taken back from Vick AND given to Mr. Hunter who saved Vick’s dog and provided children with a wonderful example of compassion, responsibility, and helping another living being to have a REAL comeback. (In other words, Vick did not make a comeback from his self-centered psychopathic sadism; but the puppy DID make a comeback and that is thanks to Mr. Hunter.)

Actually, neither Vick nor Mr. Hunter meets the criteria to receive the key to the city, according to Mayor Lippert (Not the one who gave Vick the key; that was Mayor Pro Tem Caraway). It is an honor to be bestowed on visiting dignitaries and such.

As for never visiting Dallas again, that’s a shame. We’ve got some really great folks here; sorry to hear that you’ll let one person’s foolishness keep you away. The citizens of the Dallas area (and the acting Mayor, as well) have all spoken out against this blunder and made it well-known that we aren’t complicit in it. It’s a little out of our legal bounds to fly to Philadelphia, break into Mr. Vick’s home, beat him up and take the key back. We’ll miss seeing you around here.

Don’t worry. I’ll be back now that I know it was not the mayor who did this. You DO have great folks in Dallas. I think it would be appropriate for the mayor to send Vick a request for the return on the key. Vick was not a “visiting dignitary.”

People must stop adulating scumbags like these just because they are good at sports. Can anyone relate this to O.J. Simpson? Just because someone is a good football player does not make them a good hero or someone to look up to. People need to stop confusing the two. People need to start admiring people like Mr. Hunter for their fine work in rescuing animals from unthinking monsters. As the owner of a rescue dog, I think we need to change the laws first to make them stricter for crimes of animal abuse – and we also need to start educating children and people about the effects of animal abuse.

The rich athletes get their way in this society. And we let them by voting ignorance into office-city level, county level, state level. Dallas mayor wants Vick to be his bud so he can be a man. Idiots.

There is no “new” Michael Vick. It’s just a show he puts on to get everything back that he had. In my opinion he did not serve enough time. Now some people put him on a pedastal, he is reformed let’s give him the key to the city, let’s give him awards and trophies. The only thing this does is show our children that it’s ok to be a criminal you still get what you want and people still idolize you. Shame on the mayor in Dallas and anyone else who feels this lowlife has changed.

Vick is still the same a-hole he always was, can’t change spots on a leopard. As for the mayor of Dallas, just because one is elected to an office doesn’t make them a good human being, he just may be the political equivalent of Vick.

Pushed out of the way by one of his bodyguards??? Wow, Vick seems really remorseful. He should’ve listened to the guy and apologized. Michael Vick is a bonafide jerk who doesn’t deserve anything, especially the key to a city. Why do people look up to these idiots? I don’t understand and never will.

As far as I’m concerned, dog or no dog, professional sports individuals are so grossly overpaid. Look, the president, the first responders, no one makes more money in this country. Not even a school teacher has a chance of hell of hitting six figures unless they have a Masters and teach for 30 years. It disgusts me and is all about what’s wrong with our culture right now. Just sayin’

He should have been handed a key to a small jail cell, and then get pushed inside with a huge Bubba that would kick the crap out of him……take that key away, he is a looser!

Cristina Uribe via Facebook

The story is on yahoo.com. Apparently, the guy showed Vick the picture of the dog, Vick looked at the picture, then looked him in the eye, and walked away. Vick doesn’t belong anywhere except a garbage bin because that’s precisely what he is.

Vick was just putting on a show when he said he cared about the dogs to get people to think he was reformed and to get the only thing he really wanted – to become an NFL star. It looks like he fooled a lot of people this past year, and this video proves it.

MV needs to live with what he did, we should post pictures up around his house of the dogs he killed maimed and fought. He should be forced to live the same life they lived. Next he will be abusing and killing people and then what will his followers think?

Cristina Uribe via Facebook

@Kathryn, oh, you know the dog owner??? That’s awesome. Richard Hunter deserves the key to the city more than Vick. But of course, since Hunter only helps animals, I guess it’s not as important. Life is so unfair.

Well, Really cannot post what I think about Vick and his muscle men. Agree that Mr. Hunter deserves the key to the city. What goes around comes around – just a matter of time before Vick screws up again. Thank you for posting this. Keep up the good work, and still believe that things are really changing for pit bulls and animal abuse in general.

I don’t know him personally but we have crossed paths since I volunteer at the no-kill shelter where Richard and other local rescuers take dogs they’ve helped for adoption and I’ve helped with one of the rescues out on the streets before.

I’m from Texas and this made me so angry I emailed the mayor to voice my opinion yesterday. Mayor Tom Lepparts is now claiming that this was done without his permission or knowledge. There are more deserving people who Actually Live in the Dallas area who should have been presented with this honor. I guess if Caraway really wanted to award a “rehabilitated felon”, I’m sure Dallas has plenty to choose from- no offense intended, but hey let’s honor our own first- or is this another way of outsourcing?

If you want proof of Richard being more than just talk I believe I have a public album on my profile from when I helped him rescue Alley.

Vick isn’t worthy. It’s difficult to decide who the biggest waste of air is – Vick, Obama, or that idiot mayor. Really a great roll model for our children isn’t he (severe sarcasm intended).

He may have been referring to the President calling the owner of Vick’s team to congratulate him for giving a felon another chance. Personally I can’t imagine why Obama would do this, but perhaps that’s what’s being referred to.

Isn’t it amazing what a good media spin wizard can train someone to say, when it’s scripted? Then he gets asked by a reporter out of the blue and he needs security to protect him??? Wow, when did reporters get violent? Take away his manager & media experts and he’s still just a poor excuse for a man – how else do you explain someone who had to hurt innocent animals to get off?

I still don’t know how likely ANYONE would be stopping to have such a loaded conversation in this situation. It looked rushed, body guards pushing… I don’t know.

Now, I certainly don’t love Vick, so don’t think I’m defending him or thinking that he’s at all sorry for what he did. We need him to answer these questions pointedly, not while leaving an event.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. That man is a monster. He does not deserve a second chance until he changes his ways. So far he’s proven what a worthless human being he is. I’m so sick and tired of athletes being given a “golden ticket.” Why not give the key to someone who is honestly worthy? Someone like an amazing teacher who strives every day to educate our children in creative and interesting ways? Why not honor a fireman/woman who risks their life everyday to help keep our homes and businesses safer. Why not give a real hero the key to Dallas.

I know one city I won’t be supporting. I will never step foot in Dallas unless they publicly take away his key to their city.

i think it’s a little soon to be giving him the keys to anything. i love animals, and i own dogs and they are my family.but the man did his time and there are plenty of guys in his industry who haven’t paid for crimes against humans! i don’t know if he’s a changed man but this video doesn’t really prove anything to me. he was kind of ambushed. his body guards are meat heads. no surprised but they don’t necessarily speak for him. i say leave the open invitation and see what happens.silence will speak volumes.

what a shame, surely the mayor of dallas could have found someone a little more worthy of the key to the city of dallas, athletics can do anything and be excused, the media has got to stop throwing the spotlight their direction, it is like a cancer they feed off of it. he will never change, because he didn’t see anything wrong in what he did.

Michael Vic has not done his time…clearly! and now a key! I have boycotted American football because of this man! then body guards as well as michael vic should have handled the situation differently…he says he has changed well than face up that’s what a “role model” should do….(shaking my head) Karma.

So sad, what happened to those dogs. I dont like Vick either, but it was the body guard that said we dont care about the dog. I hope Vick responds to you. That would be what a “changed person” would do. But I dont think he will. Athletes used to be the kind of people you wanted your kids to look up to, but anymore, they are just overpaid egos.

Michael Vick should still be in jail, not a starting quarterback in the NFL, or being given the key to any city. Better yet, he ought to be handcuffed with his hands behind his back and all those poor dogs should all get to take a bite out of him!

Some things I can’t forgive. Michael Vick should be made to read about Oogy, the two month old Dogo puppy used as bait in training for fighting. How anyone with a heart could be so cruel is beyond me. He may be welcome in Dallas but he better stay off my porch!
