WINTER HAVEN – After months of neglect, a good scrub and some tender loving care made all the difference for dogs seized from a Polk County home Friday.
“A lot of the water was just pure blood because they were so eaten up with fleas. They were so scared,” Lisa Moehring, president of Save Our Homeless Pets.
Dozens of volunteers from rescue groups all over the Bay Area spent the holiday weekend gently washing and caring for each and every dog — more than 200 of them.
“We basically washed all of those dogs twice, because that’s how filthy they were. A lot of fleas. A lot of ticks and things we were picking. We had to pick 37 ticks off one little gal,” said Jack Novoselski, with Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue.
