Pilot Dog Audree Keeps Customers, Staffer On Right Path At Hardware Store

LANCASTER — Audree is an employee in the plumbing department at Lowe’s. She shows up punctually every day, never complains to superiors and perfectly understands the layout of the store. But she yet has to receive a single paycheck for her work.

Audree is the pilot dog for Marty Puckett, who has been steadily losing his sight for the past 10 years.

Puckett and Audree teamed up about three years ago. The pair negotiate through the hazards of the hardware store with ease, which has allowed him to keep the same job for the past 12 years.

“I probably wouldn’t be here working if I didn’t have her,” he said.

A hereditary condition has left Puckett, 35, with just 5 percent of his vision in his right eye, but that too will eventually be gone.
