HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Officials in a rural northwestern New Jersey town have delayed a vote on an ordinance that would ban wolf-hybrid dogs.
Some 200 people packed a Holland Township Committee meeting.
The ordinance was proposed last month after five of Cliff Zager’s 14 wolf dogs escaped. Six got out of the fenced in property last week after a gate was pulled from its hinges and one of the dogs killed a neighbor’s cat.
It was the fourth time the dogs have escaped since 2005.
Thirty residents spoke in support of the wolf dogs and 15 said they should be banned.
Zager will challenge the ordinance in court if it’s adopted.
The committee plans to consider it at its Nov. 4 meeting.
Most dogs would go after a cat or any small animal for that matter. Does that mean you ban all dogs from further breeding? Leave the “wolf-dogs” alone!
I wish the wolves would have left my cat alone. We buried him tonight, at least the PARTS WE CAN FIND…
Most dogs don't hunt in packs and ignore any and all commands of their owner. Mr. Zager has no control over these freaks of nature. Leave my cat and my yard alone! I want the wolves out of my yard. Forever.
i agree most dogs will go after a cat or cats so why tae it out on these beautiful dogs they have instincts like every other dog
dont leave your cats outside keep them in doors
This is really a sad story. One, “wolf-dogs” are really great creatures when raised and handled correctly. This means daily training with each of them, which seldom happens. It is so sad that they get the bad rap they do when in reallity it's not their fault, in most cases it's their owner's. I hope what ever conclusion this story has turns out to be the best for all involved…including the “wolf-dogs”. There are many rescues that could take them if they need to leave that area, they are what they are, don't hold that against them. Owner responsibility.
