In the six months that The Dog Files has been online, it’s safe to say that most of what we do is a celebration of all things dog. But once in a while, we see something that we feel most be addressed.
This is one of those moments.
If you want a dog, please contact your local shelter or a reputable breeder in your area, because if you buy a dog at a puppy store, chances are, this is where they came from.

Heartbreaking. Absolutely heartbreaking to imagine that those dogs, right now, are in cages somewhere, and nobody cares for them, beyond their ability to make puppies.
It's disgusting.
Makes you wonder where Obama will be getting his dog from.
This is really sad, but a reality unless people like us educate against it.
We live in PA, and it is known for puppy mills, every week in the paper among the puppy for sale ads is a large ad from a local dog club warning about puppy mills.
We go in to local “everything under one roof pet stores” and there are mistreated hybrid specialty puppies selling for $1000's. It's crazy.
Please please please people…avoid getting a puppy for christmas just because kids want one. Do your research and know that it takes to take proper care of a dog. They love us so much, we need to take care of them.
Also remember 2 things, if you're looking for the latest “designer” hybrid doggy, look no further than the lovable mixed breed at the local shelter. And also adopting a dog is the ultimate form of recycling. So do your part.
And if all else fails check out the local dog clubs in your area for the breed of dog you desire. They will point you toward a reputable breeder.

So…what will happen to those dogs and puppies that are being sold? I don’t see not buying them as particularly helpful. What will happen to those already here? Nope…the ONLY way is to find a way to close these mills and auctions down so they are not productive. Don’t ignore the ones who are already here…the ones up for auction. Shut the auctions down. Make them illegal. Rescue the dogs.
