On November 13, 2008, the world lost a tremendous force of good in the dog world.
Ingela Levett, 63, was the Founder and President of Rawhide Rescue. A non-profit rescue group of foster homes that worked tirelessly to find “forever homes” for dogs. She helped save over 2000 dogs and brought happiness to so many people.
The Dog Files would like to send Ingela’s family our condolences. For the brief period that we knew her, she certainly touched and changed our lives forever. She was clearly one of those lucky few people that were doing exactly what they were meant to do with their lives.
Below is Episode Two of The Dog Files. It focused on Rawhide Rescue and, in particular, Ingela. We hope you enjoy it and take away an idea of how many lives Ingela Levett has touched.
I recently did an interview with Colin Devroe of Viddler fame. Viddler is an awesome video site and an even more incredible video community. We use them throughout The Dog Files site. You can check out the interview here!
This past Tuesday, I was pleasantly surprised to get an email inviting me to be a guest on a podcast called “Net@Night.” Of course, I jumped at the chance!
Net@Night is on the TWIT network, one of the biggest podcast networks in existence with over two million downloads a month. Simply put, this was a big deal. I’ve been an avid fan of all things Leo Laporte and Amber MacArthur since the TechTV days. As a matter of fact, I learned editing in the 90’s, while The ScreenSavers played in the background!
I’d like to thank Leo and Amber for having me on and I hope I can come back in the future. Here’s a link to the podcast. My interview starts past the halfway mark. Net@Night Ep.74: The Dog Files
I don’t know about you guys, but The Dog Files is very excited that this political season is coming to an end. We’ve thought long and hard who we should endorse. We made sure that we took in to account the financial mess on Wall Street, our National Security, and Healthcare Reform. After much debate in The Dog Files bullpen, we’ve unanimously come to a decision.
The Dog Files would like to thank Natalie Portman and Rashida Jones for taking time out of their busy schedules to make our announcement.
Now click the video below to see who The Dog Files thinks can help take our country successfully into this new century.
Courtney Camera, our beloved Co-Producer and insane dog lover, was featured on the latest Girls Gone Geek audio podcast! We’re very excited here at Dog Files Central and we think she did an incredible job.
Listen to the podcast here and then take a look at the Girls Gone Geek web site.
We would like to thank Liana Lehua, Marissa Levy, Melissa Thiessen for being so gracious and just plain cool to Courtney and The Dog Files!
This past week, the Dog Files crew had the pleasure of traveling to the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, NY. Once there, we spent the day learning about the Wolves from Maggie Howell and Rebecca Bose, two of the great people working daily at the center to ensure the longtime survival of this incredible animal.
Some of the wolves we met were Apache, an Arctic Wolf (white wolf pictured below,) and Lukas, a Canadian/Rocky Mountain Wolf (grey wolf also pictured below.)
In addition to learning about the wolf, one of the reasons we went to South Salem was to learn about its connection to our beloved dogs. We found out that Wolves can whimper like dogs, but only bark in cases of sensing danger. Also, that the Alpha Wolf lifts its leg when peeing and they all seem to kick up dirt with their hind legs after said event. One of the more annoying traits my two dogs have!
In all, we had an incredible time spending the day with one of nature’s most incredible creations. And when we got home to our own pups, we all had a renewed sense of wonder about them. Courtney, my co-producer, said she spent the evening howling to her dog, Buddha, but to no avail. He just looked at her like she’s crazy. Very astute dog!
Keep watching The Dog Files for this special episode coming this fall!
As Max contemplates under the flag about his country’s 233rd birthday, (he is part American Foxhound after all,) The Dog Files wishes you and your family an incredible Independence Day (sans alien attacks!)
But please remember not to take your dogs with you to watch the fireworks. The loud noise can be very frightening because they have much more sensitive hearing than we do. Your hound may become very upset and run away when they are frightened.
That being said, let the festivities begin! Mom, apple pie, baseball and dogs! Don’t know why they left “dogs” out of that saying.
Great article about The Dog Files on “In the Shelter of your Heart.” It’s a great web site by a dedicated owner of three rescue Pit Bulls who works to raise awareness in her South Dakotan community about the breed. Check it out!
