Sunbeam Shines on Fallen Soldier’s Miracle Dog

Sunbeam on wardog
The following are the words of the photographer.

It was an overcast day in Newport, N.H., when a simple “20/20? shoot turned into something that made me wonder about life after death.

I was filming soldier Justin Rollin’s parents Skip and Rhonda playing with their dog Hero, whose rescue from the Iraq War zone where Justin died was nothing short of a miracle.

Sometimes when Rhonda hugged Hero she would softly pet her face and coo, “Justin, are you in there?” It was Rhonda’s gentle way of remembering their son and his last living connection to Hero. At one point, Hero wandered off and took a stroll in the backyard. All of a sudden, the clouds broke and a light began to solidify in a beam directly down on Hero — a kind of vertical halo.

As this dramatic ray of light was shining on Hero she turned to look at me, and it was all I could do to hold the camera steady and not drop it in astonishment. It was an unforgettable moment, and made me wonder if in fact Justin was in there. Then the light vanished.

I couldn’t wait to check my camera’s playback to see if it caught the stunning beam. When I saw that it did, I was so happy that I burst out dancing. It was a great moment to share with Justin’s parents. We all laughed together, and wondered if perhaps this had been a sign from Justin.

What Steve Jobs’ Words Mean To The Dog World: Dog Files Opinion

In case you don’t know, Steve Jobs is one of my heroes. Yes, he could be headstrong, and yes, he could be a jerk. But the man saw through the corporate red tape that holds so much of us back. He cut through it with determination and strength. He believed in what he was doing and let no one get in his way.

Steve Jobs knew there was a better way to run a business. A business that didn’t exist on the fears of consumers. Apple never ran on focus groups, but thrived through common sense and rational thought. It’s a business where passion came first, then profits.

Over the last couple of years, I have run into a great deal of red tape as I try to simply “help dogs”. And the problems are always from humans, never the dogs. To get myself through these trying issues, I always remind myself, “It’s always about the dogs.” And then, I stand back up and figure out my next line of attack to continue building on the Dog Files’ mission of showing the world that dogs deserve our love, care and respect.

Of course, I have also met some of the most amazing, loyal and kind people working in the “dog world.” Just look at my Dog Files episodes. Everyone one of the people highlighted in them has given their time, love and life over to helping dogs. They understand how hard it can be working past other people’s egos and stubbornness. They realize that red tape doesn’t really exist if you don’t agree to believe in it. They don’t let the internet naysayers get to them. And when those forces threaten to beat them into submission, they always get back up with greater purpose and double their efforts.

How do they find the strength? Something tells me, they also say to themselves, “It’s always about the dogs.”

Yes, it really can be that simple.

In this video, Steve Jobs will tell you the most important thing you’ll learn all year. And it directly applies to all of us trying to make the world a better, safer place for dogs. We can make a difference and we can change the world.

We just have to keep repeating to ourselves, “It’s always about the dogs.”

MARYLAND – A man in a “Frosty the Snowman” costume was led away in handcuffs Saturday morning during the town’s annual Christmas parade, charged with assault and disorderly conduct.

Police identified the man as Kevin Michael Walsh, 52, of Chestertown.

Walsh was charged with assaulting two police officers and a police dog, according to Sgt. John A. Dolgos. Walsh also was charged with disorderly conduct.

After processing at the police station, Walsh was to be taken to the district court commissioner’s office for a bond hearing, according to Dolgos.

The charges against Walsh stem from an alleged confrontation at about 10:15 a.m. at Cross and High streets the nexus of the Christmas parade, which stepped off at 10 a.m.

Walsh is accused of kicking at police dog Henzo. The dog was sitting at the intersection with handler Pfc. James Walker as part of “traffic control” for the parade. Dolgos said that Walker “kindly escorted him away from the crowd and then it got heated.”

As Walsh was taking off the head portion of the “Frosty” costume, he allegedly hit Walker in the face with it, according to police.

Walker and Pfc. Marty Heinefield placed Walsh on the sidewalk in front of The Compleat Bookseller “as part of routine takedown,” Dolgos said in a telephone interview Saturday morning. The arrest was very public. Walsh could be heard screaming, over the din of the parade, “You have no right to arrest me.”

As Walker and Heinefield were trying to place Walsh in the patrol car, Walsh allegedly pushed Heinefield.

Walsh also was seen walking around the downtown area Friday night dressed as “Frosty,” participating in the celebration surrounding the official arrival of Santa Claus.

There were no reports of improper behavior, according to police. Walsh is currently on probation for a September conviction for disorderly conduct.

When Corporal Ward Van Alstine of the United States Marine Corps returned home for Thanksgiving, there was more than just a delicious turkey dinner waiting for him. The Marine was reunited with Chloe, a stray from Afghanistan he had taken in as his own during his last deployment. The Marine’s sister worked with a non-profit group to have Chloe flown from Afghanistan to the U.S.

When asked about the special homecoming with his companion, the Marine offered that “It doesn’t matter… how much you’ve screwed up in your life, you know, your dog is always your best friend.”

Loyal Dog Guards Grave Of Deceased Master

November 23, 2011 in Heroics, Inspirational, News, World

People living in a Chinese village have been so moved by a dog that has been guarding the grave of its deceased owner they plan to build a kennel for him.

The yellow dog belonged to Lao Pan, a single man who died earlier this month aged 68.

After his room in Panjiatun village near Qingdao city, Shandong Province, was cleared his dog disappeared.

But villagers later found the dog by the grave of its owner. Reports say that for seven days, the dog stayed there, refusing to leave.

Seeing that the dog was going without food, the locals tried to take it back to the village and gave it some buns.

The dog took the buns and returned to the graveyard.

Now the villagers are taking food and water to the dog regularly and plan to put up a kennel for it near its owner’s grave.
