Miracle Dog Patrick’s Custody Battle Goes To Newark Court

Patrick with doctor The custody fight for Patrick headed to a Newark, New Jersey court Thursday morning. The one-year-old dog, who was found in a trash bin in March, is currently recovering at an animal hospital in Tinton Falls, New Jersey.

But the American Humane Society, which initially took the dog, wants to take him to a shelter, while the city of Newark feels that Patrick should continue his recovery at the animal hospital until he is ready to be adopted. Newark, New Jersey claims its contract with AHS doesn’t give the association custody of Patrick.

Authorities said Patrick’s owner Kisha Curtis, left the Pit Bull tied to a railing in her Newark apartment building for over a week, and the starving dog was later found in the trash bin.

The Humane Society filed a motion to move Patrick to an animal housing shelter, while a Superior Court Judge signed an order in April that said the Pit Bull would stay at Garden State Veterinary Specialists for the length of the criminal case.

The AHS claims to have the legal right to Patrick because they first took him to their Newark New Jersey shelter before moving him to Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls New Jersey.

how could they send or miracle dog to the shelter and when u is not adopted in their time limit and then put him to sleep how could they we have prayed for this dog and sent money for his care and they want to put him in the shelter if i had a place to keep him i would take him now and no one would send him to a shelter come on people have a heart this dog has been through enough he needs a GOOD home and a loving family to make is life better and the shelter is not the p lace for a dog that has been through more in one year than most dogs go through in their life GIVE PATRICK THE LIFE HE DESERVES PLEASE

Please allow Patrick to stay where he is well cared for and loved by the veterinary staff. It will make his transition to his forever home easier if he is not moved around too much. I wonder who is the lucky person who will get Patrick – I wish it would be me.

Leave him where he is. He has gone through too much and has come to far to have to be in a shelter.
Putting him in a shelter at this point would only hinder his recovery, NOT help. If the veterinary hospital is willing to house him until he is adopted, LEAVE him alone….

what’s wrong with those people? Don’t they want Patrick to get completely well & be adoped? No they want him to go to a shelter and probably die there. Please don’t let them take him!!!!!! He deserves a better life, remember he had the will to live and he fought very hard to stay alive. There is so much animal abuse out there, and these animals all they ask for is to be loved, what a small request.

Shouldn’t the AHS have better things to spend their money on….like taking care of animals instead of wasting it away going to court to put Patrick into a place that wouldn’t be good for him?!! Seriously, he’s in the best place possible until he can get a forever home….shelter life isn’t what he needs. He needs stability and love. SHAME on the American Humane Society…and actually they should be changing their name because what they are doing here isn’t humane!! AHS…you have sunk to a new low!! >:-(

This baby has suffered enought…how does the AHS think that pulling him from the safety he now feels with this staff is good for him? He needs to stay with the vet staff until he’s adopted. There’s plenty of people that want him.

Leave the dog where he is, he’s familiar with the people and feels comfortable there…Patricks been thru enough!

Everything that everyone has said today is SO true. I have worked in the animal medicine business, he needs to stay where he is to get the proper care. Putting him in an overcrowded shelter will delay or prohibit his getting well and adopted. Why spend the money on court fees when that money could go to the animals already in the shelter and need care. One cough from a dog is a death sentence!!! Antibiotics clears it up in no time, but most shelters don’t want to spend the time or ,money on these poor babies. I adopted a puppy from a local shelter, 3 days after I brought her home she was deathly sick with kennel cough. I called the shelter. They told me to bring her back for a refund and she will be put down….WHAT!!!! No way, I brought her to the vet and she was near death. She had to have special breathable antibiotics. A lot of sleepless nights and rocking her brought her back….not only did I rescue her, she rescued me from the loss of my 10 year old dog, Ayla, that had passed. She helped me heal and every day since, she has shown me unconditional love. Leave that baby where he is!!!

well that is just Stupid taking the dog to a Shelter , he is better at the Hospital, that is for sure, sleeping in a clean nice hospital, or go to a crowded Shelter were all the dogs bark day and night and no chance to recover, come on HS let him be, take care of the rest of the animals you have at the shelter you are doing a great job, just not with this dog, there are more who needs you, Patric is in a good place.

I’ve worked in both a shelter and Vet hospital and hands down the poor dog needs to stay put. The more upheaval he gets now the more likely he will be to recover slower and have more emotional stability issues. If he has bonded with the staff let him be.

This is insane. Let the AHS give the shelter space to another needy dog and spend the money they are frittering on a custody dispute on fulfilling their mission helping animals not paying lawyers. This seems simple bloody mindedness on their part. Compromise for the sake of the dog.

leave the poor dog where he is hasnt he had enough upheaval in his short life not only is he lucky to be alive after a disastrous start. take him to a shelter and it wont be long before he has some thing else wrong like a kennel cough then they will want to put him down after all the love and money spent on saving him. leave him where he is.

thats where patrick should stay,at tinton falls animals hospital.they are the ones who took good care of patrick,and brought him back to health.that woman,deserves to be starved,tied to a pole and thrown in the trash,to die a slow horrible death!
