A $5,000 reward is being offered after an unknown suspect driving a white van was seen dumping over one dozen small dogs in the middle of oncoming traffic on the Imperial Highway in El Segundo, California last week.
El Segundo Police said as many as six dogs were rescued and taken to local adoption centers during the ordeal, which reportedly lasted as long as 6 hours.
One witness recalled seeing a dog hit by a car and dragged 20 feet. “I grew up on a farm in Colorado with horses and dogs and cats, and was always around animals, where they get injured or need help, but I’ve never seen anything like this,” Kellie Peters told Cesarsway.com.
The dog, now named Carson, is being treated at Brent Air Animal Hospital for internal and external injuries, including a broken rib, according to the organization.
Animal advocates D Cups Saving Tea Cups is offering a $3,500 reward any information that leads to the identification and arrest of the individual or individuals responsible.
Actress Katherine Heigl’s foundation has also donated a $1500 reward.
Any donations made to the Millan Foundation’s DEAR Fund between now and May 10, 2011 will be given to Carson’s care.
Why would anyone do that?
When I was little, someone actually stole one of our kittens, stuck it in a bag, and dumped it on the national road close to our home. We’d put posters everywhere and, by some miracle, the bag landed close to someone’s garden who lived by the side of that road and they happened to have seen the posters, so they called us and the cat was OK.
I just do not get it. I really don’t. What do you get out of it?
My husband says people are always dropping off dogs at the Santa Ana river canel in Riverside, Calif. It must be at night because the security night watchman see’s the dogs walking in the parking lot in the early morning… It is so sad, I wish people who don’t want these dogs just take them too their nearest shelter!
What a sad story!! I hope all of these innocent dogs find true loving homes!! God bless you little ones!!

Snuckawoowooz, they shouldn’t take them to the “shelter” either. They should find them nice, loving homes. But that would take up too much of their precious time that they could be using to make other lives miserable.
There should be a federal law thaanyone caught doing anything like this should get a minimum of 10yrs in a federal prison. They are no better than anyone in there. At the same time there should be safe harbor drop off placves where they can be dropped off if not wanted. I am sickened by these people who give no regard to a life and feel they don’t feel pain or suffering, what I cannot fathom is that they are teaching thier children this. THEY MAKE ME SICK!!!
Makes me sick to my stomach!!! They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent! These poor innocent animals didn’t do anything to anyone and they can’t talk, so if people can’t take care of them or are going to be cruel to them, they shouldn’t own one to start with!!!!

What? What is wrong with this? Mentality…. If people have these dogs and cannot take care of them, then take them to a local shelter (free)… It makes me sick…I would have taken one of those cute dogs in a heart beat…I had one just like that about 15 years ago… we named her Chewie, and she was the best dog every… We had not idea what her breed was…But she was a great dog…One of the best. I cannot imagine someone being so disguting to place them on a freeway to get killed… so disgusting…I am sick to my stomach and cannot deal with anything tonight… I am crying.
