Shannon DeBra blames herself for the loss of her dogs.
The dog rescuer, who takes care of dogs as a foster parent for Recycled Doggies, had 15 dogs, four of which were her own, plus her cat.
Upon returning home Monday night, she saw smoke coming from a side window and heard smoke detectors going off. When DeBra called her dog‘s names, sadly no one came out.
“If the dogs would have gotten out, it would just be OK. but the fact that I saved all these dogs and now they’re gone,” DeBra said. “That’s the part that I can’t get over, that I saved these dogs, then they weren’t safe with me.”
While 11 of the dogs died including her cat, four dogs were saved. One dog however, named Xena, ran away once she was outside.
“She actually survived a house fire two years ago and that’s how she became homeless,” DeBra said.
Firefighters said it appears some sort of electrical problem sparked the fire in the first-floor kitchen.
There is a ChipIn set up if you’d like to donate to Shannon DeBra and her rescue.
This is my greatest fear. This makes me so sad. Thankful for the lost dog being found.
Sincerest condolences. It’s sad when these things happen, especially when it’s those rare few who actually do try to do some good in this World.
