A dog that had been stuck in a drainage system in Gonzales, Louisiana for about a week was finally rescued Wednesday morning.
There were four different attempts to get the dog out over the weekend but every time rescuers got close, the dog moved further into the drainage system.
It’s believed that the dog is a stray and was not really trapped. Rescuers said that there ways for the dog to get out on his own, likely, the same way he got in
Neighbors said they’re not sure how the dog got down there but they first noticed the dog about a week ago and despite their best efforts, they just could not seem to get to it. They were seriously worried about the animal’s health and threw the dog bread to feed him.

This is one road trip that would give Cheech and Chong nightmares!
On February 9, Joel Dobrin and his Pit Bull were driving in his 1998 GMW Truck in Sherman County, Oregon when Dobrin spotted Police Sgt. John Terrel’s cruiser lights flashing in his rearview mirror.
In a panic, Dobrin grabbed the gym sock that held his stash of marijuana and attempted to hide it somewhere in his car. Unfortunately for Dobrin however, his Pit Bull loves playing tug of war and loves it even more when a sock is involved.
Sadly, the game ended badly for Dobrin when the dog ripped the dope-filled sock out of his master’s hand and flung said sock out the open truck window!
Enter Sgt Terrel who saw the sock exit the window, pulled Dobrin over, retrieved the sock and found the hidden stash.
Joel Dobrin was indicted on drug possession charges.
Dobrin’s dog (who enjoys prominent placement on Dobrin’s Facebook page), is now being groomed for a K9 position with the sheriff’s office, or ar least Police Sgt. John Terrel wishes he was.

Police Dog Hero, Ruwa
By Elaine Furst For Dog Files
This is one police dog that really earned his stripes.
When police officers responded to a domestic violence call in Boise, Idaho they were told by witnesses that the suspect had attempted to strangle the victim and that he had left on foot just prior to their arrival.
Officers used telephone and text messages in an attempt to track down the suspect but they only received threatening texts in return.
By late afternoon the suspect was traced to an open field and when officers tried to flush him out, the suspect resisted.
Enter Boise Police Service dog, Ruwa, who found the suspect hiding in the bushes and per his training, bit the suspect on the arm. The suspect fought with Ruwa attempting to choke the dog using his legs. Ruwa was able to hang on but he suffered a broken tooth, which was found and removed from the suspect’s arm.
In the end, Michael R. Gillespie, 34, of Tacoma, Washington was arrested for Mistreatment of a Police Dog, Attempted Strangulation, Resisting and Obstructing Officers and Violation of a No Contact Order.
As for Ruwa, he was taken to a vet and will soon see a K9 dentist to be fitted with a steel replacement tooth or cap.

DreamWorks has picked up the film rights to writer/cartoonist/Pulitzer Prize winner Berkeley Breathed’s children’s book, Flawed Dogs: The Year-End Leftovers at the Piddleton ‘Last Chance’ Dog Pound’.
Featuring artwork that is reminiscent of Salavador Dali’s surreal, almost psychedelic style, Flawed Dogs is an illustrated tale of doggy “undesirables.”
In a released statement, Alex Schwartz, head of DreamWorks development, said: “In Flawed Dogs, we have a dog movie that has edge as well as heart, which will be inspired by the singularly brilliant visual and comedic sensibility of Berkeley Breathed. At DreamWorks animation we are excited to work with him on what we believe to be a universally appealing story that captures the unique and profound relationship between humans and their dogs.”

Breathed is best known for his long-running comic strip, Bloom County.

Across the street from the Ferguson Grove Baptist Church sits the empty property where Michael Vick ran his infamous dog fighting ring. An organization called Dogs Deserve Better is raising money to buy the property to turn it into a dog rehab center. If Wallace Johnson, Jr. has his way however, this will not happen.
Johnson, who is a member of the church but claims to not be speaking on their behalf, is fully opposed to the idea and is concerned about the smell and noise that the dogs could bring.
After he raised his concerns, Johnson says the church heard an earful. Some were asking why it was okay for dogs to live there before, under such horrific circumstances.
Johnson says, “As much time as I spent at 1876 Moonlight Road, I never saw a dog, never heard a dog.”
The pastor meanwhile, says the church is not taking a stance.
?The founder of Dogs Deserve Better says she’s willing to work with the church by ensuring that the dogs are inside the house during worship services.??Johnson says that would help, but he’s still opposed to their plans.??
“It’s my full intent to do whatever I can,” he says.??
There may not be much action he can take though. According to the director of the Surry County Planning Department, the land is already zoned an agricultural/rural residence district. That zoning allows for private and commercial kennels.??
Meanwhile, Dogs Deserve Better continues to raise money for their rehab center. They now have more than $71,000 out of the almost $600,000 they need by March 20th to buy the property.
