COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 17 (UPI) — Workers at an Ohio company said a hunting dog spotted a 4-foot alligator near the office and alerted them to its presence.

Jeff Tate, who owns Buckeye Caseworks in Columbus, said employee Jeff Colucy was letting his Weimaraner dog, which is trained to spot birds, relieve himself near the building when the canine spotted the reptile, the Columbus Dispatch reported Thursday.

“My sales manager was taking his dog out to go to the bathroom, and he went to bring him back in and he was on point — but not at a bird — at a gator,” Tate said.

Tate said he blocked the gator from escaping into woods behind the property while police officers tried to reach removal agencies.

Chris Law of Ohio Reptile Service arrived and said he had to use his bare hands and some electrical tape to catch the animal because he was on his way to a vacation when authorities reached him.

“He didn’t even break his stride,” Tate said of Law. “He just walked right up and grabbed the gator’s tail and pulled him out.”

Law said he rescues about 40 alligators per year. He said owners of the reptiles often release them when they become too big to keep.

“There are people out there that shouldn’t own anything, and unfortunately those are also the same people who own these animals,” Law said. “They expect they can toss it in an aquarium and call it a day.”

He said the alligator will be sent to a reptile rescue organization.

Picking up doggy doo is no prize that’s for sure! However, Steve Wilson found quite a prize in a pile of dog doo one day. While cleaning up after a dog something caught Wilson’s attention, what he saw were bits of what appears to be U.S. currency.

Wilson who works with the St. Louis firm DoodyCalls Pet Waste Removal fished out the cash buried in the dog doo, sanitized it, then placed it in a plastic bag. He reportedly gave the $58 dollar “prize” back to the owner of the money eating dog.

Although the bills appear to be “chewed,” the serial numbers are still visible, so exchanging them at any bank for clean money will not be a issue according to STLtoday.com. Of course, the details of the money finding should probably be kept a secret.

Is there a lesson here? Make sure you pick up after your dog because you literally wont know what you’ll find!

HENRIETTA, Ohio, June 16 (UPI) — An Ohio man was killed by the dogs he and his father had taken in as strays and cared for, police said.

Michael Kywa found the body of his son, Michael Winters, 30, early Tuesday afternoon in the driveway of their house in Henrietta in Lorain County, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported. Coroner Paul Matus said there were hundreds of bites on the body and Winters’ clothes had been ripped to shreds.

“When dogs develop a pack mentality, they can launch an attack on someone,” Matus said. “I have never seen anything like this and I’ve been here since the 1970s.”

Police Sgt. Donald Barker said the father and son were caring for about a dozen dogs. He said police killed two of them while rounding them up because they were so aggressive. The others will be put down because police have no way of determining which were involved in the attack.

Neighbors said there was at least one very large mastiff among the dogs, although some were small.
