LOS ALAMOS – She has a bark that’s been heard from coast to coast and probably beyond.

Sydnee, a six year old Australian shepherd, made national news by barking from one to ten on command in front of our news camera getting rewarded with a raisin after reaching each number.

That sparked a flurry of e-mails and phone calls from concerned viewers on the Central Coast and across the country about the danger of giving raisins to dogs.

“People are worried, they’re calling me, I was surprised”, says Sydnee’s owner Maxine Davis who says she knows about giving raisins to dogs, “I heard that, I heard that, I just didn’t believe it and I still don’t believe it.”

Actor John Travolta has suffered yet another personal loss. According to the actor’s publicist and an airport spokeswoman, his two dogs were hit and killed by a service vehicle at an airport in Bangor, Maine.

The airplane was on the tarmac for refueling.

Airport spokeswoman Rebecca Hupp said of the incident, “While there, two small dogs on leashes were taken for a walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the aircraft and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately the dogs were struck and killed.”

The assistant who was walking the dog was unharmed.

The city released the following statement regarding the accident: “An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the airplane and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed. The airport is investigating the accident. Out of respect for the family’s privacy the city will make no further comment.”

On a brighter note, the family announced yesterday that they will be welcoming a new baby into their family. While the family did not say what they were expecting, they did confirm that Travolta’s wife, Kelly Preston, is pregnant.

A California dog has talents that go way beyond just Frisbee catching, paw shaking and rolling over.

“Sydnee” the dog knows how to count. Her owner gives Sydnee a number, one through 10, and she barks that many times. She’s rewarded with raisins.

Her owner got the Australian Sheppard when she was 10 months old from a soldier that was on his way to Iraq. Six years later, Sydnee was ready to show off her talent to the world.

Owner Maxine Davis says Sydnee not only counts to 10 in order, but she can do so in reverse as well.
