ROSSMOOR- Ronnie, a fox wire terrier, was honored Tuesday for his quick actions in protecting his family from a coyote that jumped into their backyard and prepared to attack.
The 30-pound terrier was named the national Hero Dog of the Year by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Los Angeles at a ceremony at the Nokia Center in Los Angeles.
“Everybody is just amazed,” said Eric Christensen, Ronnie’s owner. “It’s just really incredible.”
“When we got Ronnie we named him after my hero, Ronald Reagan,” his wife, Janis, said. “I never thought that when we named him, Ronnie would be a hero, too.”

A coyote isn't a fox but it seems like he was doing what should come naturally to his breed. Good to see a usually timid dog would not hesitate when it came to defending his family.
