Did you know that just like people, dogs can be shy too? If this sounds like your dog the Michigan Humane Society is here with tips on how to help your dog overcome being shy.

- Some dogs, like some people, tend to be a bit on the shy side.

- You can begin to help build a dog’s self-confidence by paying attention to your body language around them.

- Try not to hover over them or reach down over their heads.

- Always allow the dog to approach you – turning your body to the side can help encourage a shy dog to approach.

- Greet them by crouching down to their level, moving slowly and giving them a gentle scratch under the chin.

- NEVER hug or restrain any dog – but especially a shy one – always leave them an escape route.

- A great way to build a dog’s confidence is by training them. Enroll in a good training program that uses only positive training methods. This will help your dog learn that she can do things and get rewarded for them. For information on the Michigan Humane Society’s training classes, contact 248-650-1059.

From NewsBlaze.com

It all began late Saturday night when Britney Parkerton stopped to get gas at the 76 gas station at 191 Iron Point Road in Folsom. Parkerton’s 7 month old Chihuahua, Roo, escaped from her car unbeknownst to her and took a self guided tour of the parking lot. Roo found trouble in a friendly stranger who stopped to help. Thus began a long morning for Roo and Parkerton.

Parkerton took comfort in knowing her lost pet was micro-chipped and had an identification collar. She was excited when a man called to say he would be happy to return her dog. Then came the caveat, the man demanded $200 or Parkerton would never see Roo again. Parkerton did the smart thing and notified the Folsom Police Department.

The police officer and his partners devised a plan to recover Roo without placing Parkerton or officers at risk. They offered the stranger $600 if he brought the dog back to Folsom. Driven by greed, the suspect agreed. With 3 ½ hours elapsed since Roo went missing, a black Chevrolet Camero returned to the gas station. A subject placed Roo back into Parkerton’s car and removed an envelope containing the requested ransom. Roo was safe.

A block away from the exchange officers’ stopped the Camero and arrested Adonison Gunther, 31, of Oakland and Marisa Jackson, 21, of Elk Grove. While the suspects claimed to be helpful citizens, their text messages and phone messages to officers and Parkerton betrayed their true intentions. Gunther and Jackson were booked into the Sacramento County Jail charged with Extortion, Possession of Stolen Property, and Conspiracy.

Roo was proud Parkerton had not put herself at risk by meeting these extortionists alone. Parkerton’s preventive care of ensuring Roo was tagged and micro-chipped helped lead to Roo’s recovery.

Almost everyone who sees Courage, the starved German Shepherd now on the mend at a German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County foster home, cries.

Before, people cried at the tragic sight of his 37-pound, beyond-emaciated frame. Now, they cry to see how far he’s come in just a little over two weeks. So far, Courage has put on 20 pounds, learned to play and is beginning to see the joy life offers. Watching him, still painfully thin but filling out, explore the world with childlike delight touches people’s emotions.

Especially his foster mom, who is now officially Courage’s forever mom. She will be adopting him as soon as all of the “red tape” surrounding this case is settled.

Do you really think that human beings are the luckiest beings on the earth? Well, you would have to think again when you come to know that a dog park named Fetch club is going to open next month in Manhattan mutts. The indoor park for dogs measures 3000 feet and would have all sybaritic services such as holistic mud masks, spa baths, manicures, homemade meals and also a disco for doggies.

The owner of the nightclub, Peter Balestrieri said that a person can drop his dog here if he desires to go elsewhere for one night. The another co-owner Jenna Le, a former finance worker who is also taking veterinary courses now, said that they are concerned about the comfort of dogs and want them to enjoy.

There are many plans for providing comfort and fun to dogs in the Fetch Club. They can move to and fro during the playtime of chasing tennis balls, can see movie classics like “Lassie” and “101 Dalmatians” or just stride on a small treadmill. All these services are available for just $35 a day. There are also plans of renovating an old previous tobacco plant to make an exclusive boutique for doggie toys and clothes, in addition to this, there will be a human sprawl for the owners to take a coffee or use an iPhone to check email while watching their pampered pooches playing.

But when the residents of downtown went to neighboring community board and shouted to them, it stifled the entrepreneurs of downtown. They were concerned that the boarding of dogs during the night would generate noise, hygiene and fitness problems.
