No Dog PoopDogs have been completely banned at 72 parks in a Nottinghamshire district.

The measures have been brought in by Newark and Sherwood District Council after some owners failed to clean up after their pets.

Dog walkers who flout the ban face £75 on-the-spot fines, which can rise to £1,000 if the matter goes to court.

Some owners have said the ban is unfair on people who do clean up dog waste and that it will force them to drive to sites where they can walk their pets.

The ban will be enforced by animal welfare officers, park rangers and police community support officers.

Other measures have been brought in for other parks and open spaces in the area, including a ban on walking more than six dogs at a time and a rule obliging owners to keep dogs on a lead at all times.

Dog walkers have expressed concern they will be breaking the measures unwittingly as signs are not yet in place in all areas.

The council has not produced a list of where pet owners can exercise their animals.

Nottinghamshire resident Jane Jenkins said: “It’s ridiculous. Where do they think you’re going to take them? Up the village where the shops are? On the pavements?”

Caroline Kisko, from The Kennel Club, said: “I think this is really well overstepping things.”

She also believes that the ban could encourage dog owners to use their cars in order to get to different places to walk their pets.

Councillor Nora Armstrong said: “Dog fouling is rightly becoming a social taboo in today’s society.

“These powers, which also help us to control where dogs are taken and how many, should help us make sure more people enjoy a cleaner, greener and safer environment in Newark and Sherwood.”

This is Big Brother rearing his ugly head again. Of course some people still refuse to pick up after their dogs, as do some people still use mobiles in cars, drive with no insurance, smoke in public places etc etc etc, there will always be a few who will flout the rules, BUT to ban all dogs and bring in these pathetic rules is outrageous. Some people with dogs do not even own a car or drive, and as mentioned, if everyone did get in a car to exercise a dog, that would not help global warming. Caroline Krisco from the Kennel Club should do something about this immediately not just pass comment, the KC have a special department for these matters so really should start putting their money where their mouth is.

Those who flaunted the dog fouling act will, I imagine also flaunt this.
Another piece of legislation which fails to hit the target group, just what the U.K. needs.

This is the Nottingham Police force getting back at all the outraged dog owners who protested at one of their Officers killing two Police dogs whilst in his care. (Boiled them alive in the car)

As usual, a few ruin it for those who DO pick-up after their dogs !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just like at dog shows…on more than one occasion I have picked up after someone else just left the “deposit” for all to step in !!

The anti-dog league with pone of its most tiresome orders. Has anyone told this woman about the benefits having a dog brings to people? Exercise for people nd help with problems. How are the blind supposed to exercise their dogs if they can't go in a park? Hearing dogs? Disability dogs? Dogs for the elderly have great benefits. And us ordinary people get exercise too.

From the district council website you can see the list of banned parks is infact a list of play areas, playing fields, war memorials, bowling greens, tennis courts and other areas where dog's are often already banned from in many areas nationally, very few of the banned areas are entire parks.

This is from a council who stood well back when a police officer claimed he was to stressed to attend court hoping the fuss would have died down before he was sentenced after he boiled two dogs in his police van
still at east we wont have to worry about going to jail if we do the same the presedent has been set now at the very least we would not get the sack from our job would we and we would have plenty of people in high places to hide us
still what do you expect from morons who dont know what common sense is only and can only make a decission from the health and safety manuel and if the answer is not in there they will make up a law to suit the situation
