This "training" seems to be more about training the humans to be responsible owners than anything to do with pitbulls. What the organization is doing makes sense because people may be unsure how to own a dog with such a misguided reputation. However, by only accepting pitbulls that aren't dog aggressive they're manufacturing good results by picking easier dogs that need only as much training as regular nonaggressive dogs would. Many pitbulls, through no fault of their own or the individual/s who previously owned them struggle with dog aggression issues.
The real pitbull advocates accept all dogs, not just the easy ones and strive to train them all to become breed ambassadors. Training an aggressive dog takes patience, skills, dedication and a true love of the dog and the breed. The most important thing to remember is that dogs suffer from aggression issues irrespective of breed type.

What this group is doing is not giving some dogs a chance based on the fact that they're aggressive. Calling it "brilliant" is probably not the right word. They're simply starting an obedience program in connection with the rescue group. That's not a bad idea, but I don't think they deserve the wild applause they're being given.

This is brilliant - just brilliant! This education and training to help train stronger and more assertive dogs is a wonderful idea for everyone - dogs and owners especially - and even onlookers who see that the owners have good comfortable control over their dogs. It's a total win/win situation
