After doing a lot of research I switched my two girls to EVO which is a high protein, low carb and No grain dry food. There are so many dogs with immune problems and cancer ( I lost two dogs to immune problems). My one dog Bellah also has an immune problem. My girls have been on the EVO for two months now and are doing great. I finally got Bellah off her prescription low residue food which was full of grain products. I feel I'm giving them the best food I can. EVO which is made by Natura also has the highest number of accreditations of any pet food manufacturer. It's also made in the USA which is important to me. EVO works for us.

A rule of thumb that i use is the first couple of ingriedents should always be meat. By products/pres. etc have no place in dog food. Like Cheri Orijen is a great dog food, i feed my two danes Innova.

this is a very informative link regarding dog food and a lot of information regarding what should be in the food and what should not

http://www.dogfoodproject.com/

Karen
www.fortheloveofdanes.com

Read the ingredient list!! Whatever the protein listed on the package is, should be listed first (ex: if Chicken is the flavor advertised, then chicken or chicken meal should be the first ingredient). Avoid any by-products and corn, corn meal... You will be surprised at the brands you thought were high quality is not that great. Also look for whole grains (oats, barley, brown rice) and veggies (broccoli) and fruit (blueberries, cranberries). I give my dogs Orijen, but there are other great foods out there. More costly, but great food!

Why can't they put a list together of comercial dog foods that are good vs, bad. That would be helpful. I feed Pedigree and Science Diet. Where do they stand on this "list"?
