Calls To Save Life Of Brooklyn Dog Thrown From Roof

Animal welfare activists and pet lovers are demanding that a dog that survived being thrown off a six-story Brooklyn building this summer be allowed to live.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says it will euthanize the pit bull mix named Oreo on Friday. The agency says she is unpredictably aggressive.

Since making the announcement, the ASPCA has been inundated with calls, Twitter messages and e-mails demanding her life be spared.

Volunteer dog rescuer Emily Danks says she was escorted out when she went to the ASPCA building to try to save Oreo.

Says Danks: “The aggression thing is a dumb excuse, because all dogs can be worked with.”

Authorities say Oreo suffered two broken legs when she was thrown off a roof on June 18.

Every dog should have a chance to be work with. The ASPCA does do alot of wonderful things for animals rights but I have to say they fell very short when it came to Oreo. It saddens me deeply to know she was thrown six stories off a roof and lived, to me thats a miracle. If someone wants to train her and give her a chance and love her, that's what it's about. That's why God gave us dogs.
If I was thrown off of a roof I think I would have aggression to. Who can she trust? Who loves her? Did anyone ever show her love? This dog should be given a chance in the name of God.

That is absolute bullshit. If they can work with fight dogs and rehabilitate them and turn them into therapy dogs, then Oreo should have had the same chance. The ASPCA handled over 400 dogs in a July dog fighting raid and has rehabilitated most of them.
Poor Oreo survived being thrown off a 6 story building, healing and recovery just to be put to sleep after all of her pain and suffering was over. That just makes NO sense to me what so ever.
I have a Pitt who survived a drowning attempt and a Staffy who survived being beat and I couldn't ask for 2 better dogs.

This innocent dog was put to death for being termed “dangerous”???? What happened to the person that threw this poor dog off the 6 story roof? That's what I call a danger to society. Why hasn't he been put to sleep. He has actually committed a horrendous act. This dog was never given a chance and killed without ever harming anyone.

This is disgusting. They had many other options. I just cant believe this. I thought they were there to help the dogs in any way they can. I know that he could have been rehabilitated by Ceasar Milan. I don't think he has ever failed any dog.

Not all dogs can be saved. It is very sad but it is a fact of life. Some are too damaged from either genetics or from poor handling and socialization or a combination of both. If she could not be placed into a home SAFELY then the ASPCA is doing a disservice to all pit bulls out there who are looking for a good home and fighting a bad reputation.
