California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed legislation to crack down on puppy mills by limiting them to 50 adult dogs, becoming the only governor in the six states where puppy mill legislation passed this year to override it with a veto.
In his veto message, Schwarzenegger said he feared the bill would criminalize the lawful activities of pet shops, kennels and groups that raise assistance dogs, the Associated Press reports.
“This measure would make it a crime for any person or entity to own or control more than 50 unsterilized adult dogs or cats for breeding or raising for sale as pets,” Schwarzenegger wrote in his veto message. “I support measures designed to prevent animal cruelty and that punish persons engaged in the abuse of animals. However, this measure simply goes too far in an attempt to address the serious problem of puppy mills.”
HE'S A COWARD!
What a wasted opportunity…
But I guess I didn't expect much better from him – the anti Robin Hood – robbing the old, the young and the poor to pay the wealthy oil companies… but he could have done a good turn for dogs along the way.
What a useless s-o-b…

He is a coward. Not all but the majority of Pet Shops get their puppies from Puppy MIlls. He just gave them right to passage. Had he ever visited a Puppy Mill he would see the cruelty and how these animals lived in cramped cages. Most have no vet care and are fed less than an adequate amout of food needed to remain healthy. 1 or 2 people cannot take care of 50 adult dogs and the puppies that comes with having that many animals. I could go on and on but I am so mad right now I cannot see straight. I have just lost all respect for ARNOLD!
shame on you..the conditions are horrid..I rescued 2 Jap Chins who were used as breeders..youshould visit a mill
What a surprise from a man who bought his family’s dog from a pet store. Seriously, 50 dogs is “too far”? That’s freaking LENIENT. Fifty dogs is a lot! Disgraceful.
