Nearly 70 Dogs Rescued From Alleged Puppy Mill

CHICAGO – Authorities have removed as many as 70 puppies from a home on Chicago’s South Side, where police say some animals were stuffed into bird cages and living without food and water.

Agents with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police and the U.S. Department of Agriculture raided the alleged puppy mill on Tuesday after undercover visits in the past weeks.

One person is in custody and faces animal cruelty charges.

Sheriff’s police spokesman Steve Patterson says some of the dogs were too big for their cages. Other puppies were found in closets.

Authorities say syringes and antibiotics were found at the scene, which an owner allegedly used to treat the animals.

Officers also went through the trash because of reports of dog bodies being thrown into the garbage.

As a dog lover myself, I often wonder how a normal human can treat a man's best friend that way. I mean, if they were looking to go into the dog breeding business they could have done it very legitimately by treating those poor puppies with some dignity and love. I say good for the Sheriff for a job well done.

I am a dog lover too, and I don’t even like to think or hear that humans could be so cruel to an animal. I think whoever did this to those poor dogs sould get 25 years to life in prison, so that they will not do this to another animal

I hope the person responsible for this faces a long time in prison – if I were the judge it would be one year of prison for each dog maltreated.
