World's Ugliest Dog Dies

A one-eyed, three-legged dog that won the title of world’s ugliest pooch this summer has died.

The St. Petersburg Times in Florida reports that Gus, a Chinese crested dog, had cancer. He was 9.

Gus was rescued from a bad home and went on to win the annual World’s Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in northern California.

Gus came from humble origins. According to the fair, his adopted family in Gulfport, Fla., rescued him after learning he was being kept in a crate inside someone’s garage.

He had one leg amputated because of a skin tumor and lost an eye in a cat fight.

Gus’ owner had said the prize money from the contest would be put toward the dog’s radiation treatment.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Think Gus was a Gem.

As a Brit involved in animal welfare and moving out to work in the United States I thought that this might interest you.

I am informed a stand alone North American version of Dogs Trust will be developed next year according to dogstrust.com. /

Dogs trust in the UK has HRH the Queen as patron and has a history going back 100 years. It will be interested to see who the U.S. patron will be “Mrs Obama” would be my choice, not sure how advanced they are but I do like the idea of The White House Palace connection as it would send out the right message to children re animal welfare.

There is no such thing as an ‘ugly dog.’ All dogs are beautiful b/c they have the souls of angels and possess unconditional love, and compassion, and forgiveness. They are everything that we as humans should aspire to be. Because of that, they are ALL beautiful.
